What is a via ferrata?

Everything you need to know before your first time at the Sorrosal via ferrata.

🧗

What is a via ferrata?

A via ferrata is a mountain route equipped with metal ladders, rungs, pegs, hanging bridges and a continuous steel cable. The cable is your safety line: you clip onto it with the energy absorber to progress in complete safety without needing to know how to climb.

🪨

The Sorrosal flysch

The rock of the Sorrosal via ferrata is Pyrenean flysch — alternating layers of sandstone and shale that form unique geometric folds in Europe. While you climb, you can touch the geological history of the Pyrenees with your own hands.

🌊

The via ferrata in spring

In spring, before the footbridge over the Sorrosal river is installed, access is made via a zip line over the gorge waters. An exclusive element that makes the spring via ferrata an even more special experience. The waterfall runs full and furious — the best time to enjoy the spectacle.

🏊

Pools and the Ara river

The canyon zone of the Sorrosal gorge forms a succession of crystal-clear waterfalls and pools perfect for a summer dip. The route ends with views of the Ara river and the old town of Broto.
