The most visited via ferrata
in the Aragonese Pyrenees
The Sorrosal via ferrata in Broto (Huesca) is the most spectacular and most visited via ferrata in the Aragonese Pyrenees. It climbs alongside the Sorrosal waterfall of nearly 100 metres, over 50-million-year-old Pyrenean flysch rock. The route includes a tunnel carved in the rock, a Tibetan bridge over the pools and ends at the Broto Viewpoint with aerial views over the Ordesa Valley.
It is 5 minutes' walk from the centre of Broto and 10 minutes by car from Ordesa and Monte Perdido National Park. The most popular combination: Sorrosal via ferrata in the morning + Ordesa Valley in the afternoon.

What you will experience
on the Sorrosal via ferrata
600 metres where no two sections are the same. This is what awaits you from bottom to top.
Start: the base of the waterfall
The starting point is at the foot of the Sorrosal waterfall. The view is already breathtaking before you start. The guide explains the equipment and how to use the absorber before setting off.
Lower section: beside the 55m drop
The first metres climb alongside the lower drop of the waterfall. The water falls less than a metre away. Spray mists your face. The rock is alive with moss and ferns. The most sensory section of the entire route.
The hidden pool at 60 metres
Between the lower and upper drops there is a natural pool invisible from the base, at about 60 metres height. In summer it is perfect for a swim mid-route. Only accessible via the ferrata.
The rock tunnel
The ferrata passes through a tunnel carved in the flysch that takes you into the heart of the gorge. Completely dark without a headlamp. The guide carries lights. On exit, the space opens up with the gorge roaring below.
The Tibetan bridge
A cable bridge crossing the gorge with the water thundering below. The most aerial and most photographed section. Crossed one at a time. Below, the Sorrosal pools.
Summit: the Broto Viewpoint
The ferrata ends at a natural viewpoint with aerial views over Broto village, the Ara river and the entrance to the Ordesa Valley. Accessible only by the via ferrata. The guide takes group photos here.

right for me?
K3 difficulty — what it means
The via ferrata scale runs from K1 (easy) to K6 (extreme). K3 is moderate difficulty: there are very vertical and aerial sections that require some upper body strength, but no rock climbing technique. Accessible for averagely fit people going with a guide.
The element that surprises people most is not the physical difficulty but the exposure: there are moments when you are several metres above the drop with the waterfall next to you. That is why it is not recommended for people with significant vertigo.
Can I do it without prior experience?
Yes, with a certified guide. The guide explains equipment use at the start, supervises every move and adapts the pace to the group. If it is your first via ferrata and you go with a guide, no prior experience is needed.
If you have vertigo
The Sorrosal via ferrata is not recommended for people with significant vertigo. There are exposed sections very close to the waterfall. If you have some vertigo but want to try via ferrata, start with the Duendes K1 via ferrata in the same setting but far less exposed.
How to prepare for the
Sorrosal via ferrata
The technical gear (harness, helmet, absorber) is provided. This is what you need to bring.
Footwear
Mountain boot or trainers with grippy rubber sole. No sandals or smooth-soled shoes. The most important item you bring.
Comfortable clothes
Trousers or leggings. T-shirt that doesn't restrict arm movement. In spring and autumn bring an extra layer — it gets cold near the waterfall.
Sun protection
Some sections are exposed to direct sun with no shade. Protect your neck and arms, especially in summer.
Water & snack
At least one litre of water per person. The route takes 2–3 hours. An energy snack for the break at the mid-height pools.
Phone in a waterproof case
If you want your own photos, protect your phone. The waterfall spray can soak it. The guide already takes group photos included in the price.
Small backpack only
A small rucksack or bum bag. The ferrata cannot be done with large bags or luggage over 10–15 litres.
