Via ferrata in Broto
Climb beside the spectacular Sorrosal waterfall in Broto, just 10 minutes from Ordesa National Park. K2-K3, no experience needed, certified guide and small groups. April to October.
The most spectacular
via ferrata in the Pyrenees
The Sorrosal Via Ferrata in Broto (Huesca) is the most visited via ferrata in the Aragonese Pyrenees and one of the most spectacular in Spain. It climbs parallel to the Sorrosal waterfall — nearly 100 metres high — passes through a tunnel carved into the rock and crosses the gorge on a Tibetan bridge, all on 50-million-year-old Pyrenean flysch rock.
It starts just 5 minutes walk from the centre of Broto village. No long approach, no driving to a trailhead. The village is literally the starting point. At the end, the Broto Viewpoint offers aerial views over the village, the Ara river and the beginning of the Ordesa Valley — only accessible via the via ferrata.
Broto is 10 minutes by car from Ordesa and Monte Perdido National Park. Doing the via ferrata in the morning and visiting the Ordesa Valley in the afternoon is the most popular combination in the area.

Six reasons the Sorrosal
via ferrata is unmissable
Beside a 100m waterfall
You climb literally next to the two drops of the Sorrosal waterfall. The spray, sound and sheer scale of the water make this a completely unique experience.
Rock tunnel
A tunnel carved into the rock wall leads you into the heart of the gorge. One of the most memorable moments of the entire route — bring a headlamp.
Tibetan bridge
A Tibetan bridge crosses the gorge with the water rushing below. The most thrilling step of the whole via ferrata.
50-million-year-old flysch
The rock you climb is Pyrenean flysch — layers of ancient seabed folded when the Pyrenees rose from the ocean. Your guide points out marine fossils during the ascent.
Broto Viewpoint
The via ferrata ends at a natural viewpoint with aerial views over Broto village, the Ara river and the entrance to the Ordesa Valley. Only reachable via the route.
5 minutes from the village
No car needed to get to the start. Walk from the centre of Broto in 5 minutes, do the via ferrata and be back in time for lunch. Then drive 10 minutes to Ordesa.

How difficult is the Sorrosal via ferrata?
It is rated K2-K3 on the Hüsler scale (easy to moderate). No previous experience is required. The main challenge is the exposed aerial sections beside the waterfall — not recommended for people with significant vertigo. Our guide explains everything at the start.
How much does it cost?
The guided activity costs 55€ per person, all inclusive: certified guide, technical equipment, insurance and photos. Equipment rental without a guide costs 15€ per person at our shop in Broto.
Do I need previous experience?
No. The Sorrosal via ferrata is suitable for beginners with a guide. Our TD2-certified guide explains how to use the equipment at the briefing before the start. The only essential requirement is having no significant vertigo.
Can I combine it with Ordesa National Park?
Yes — and we highly recommend it. Broto is 10 minutes by car from Ordesa. Via ferrata in the morning, Ordesa Valley in the afternoon. Or combine it with the Furco canyoning route, also departing from Broto.
Is there a via ferrata for children in Broto?
Yes. The Sorrosal via ferrata is suitable from age 10. There is also the Duendes del Sorrosal via ferrata (K1), an easier route perfect for children from age 6-8 and families. We have children's sizes in all equipment.
When is the via ferrata open?
The via ferrata is open from April to October, subject to weather conditions and annual maintenance. In spring, before the footbridge over the Sorrosal river is installed, access uses a zip line over the gorge — an exclusive extra thrill.
